There exist many schools known throughout the world for their excellence, flexibility and for the range of opportunities they afford. Students travel yearly in their millions to obtain qualifications from such internationally recognised schools and this trend is bound to continue increasing. Western countries like Canada, USA and UK
continue to increase their international student in take yearly in order to maintain their global competiveness.
Public universities in Cameroon currently graduate more than 20,000 students with bachelor’s degrees annually. These graduates, who make up only about 20% of each incoming class, represent the most capable, resilient, hardworking and forward looking students that Cameroon can produce. About 70% of these graduates remain unemployed up to 4 years after graduation. Almost ALL these Cameroonian students and scholars (from both the English speaking and French speaking zones) are deserving of, and indeed, desire seeking higher education opportunities abroad. However, only a few students from Cameroon actually fulfil this dream while hundreds of thousands continue to be frustrated in their search for personal growth opportunities both within and outside Cameroon.
The problem of low enrolment in foreign universities from Cameroon certainly is not the barrier of English language (for Francophones or Anglophones), as the vast majority of international students go to study in countries whose first language is not the same with that of their home country. It is neither due to financial constraints; as the wealthiest 5% Cameroon High school graduates can readily pay their undergraduate education, while most graduate admits will readily receive financial assistantship like their counterparts from other parts of the world.
The main problem preventing students in Cameroon from taking advantage of opportunities in foreign higher education is that they have difficulties fulfilling clearly defined admission requirements (see Application Process).
Without good information, Exam prep materials, supportive services and mentorship, many highly deserving students end up frustrated trying to seek favours from family and friends. Others take months to complete transactions that could be done in minutes. Yet, without a clear, readily accessible path through the application process, more students simply give up trying and with that, their hopes for foreign education and personal success.
